Greyston Bakery

Greyston Bakery is a B-Corp located in Yonkers, NY. The company’s founder, Zen Buddhist Bernie Glassman, built Greyston Bakery to employ individuals who faced barriers to meaningful employment by setting up a system where anyone can apply for a bakery position at Greyston through their Open Hiring process; an employment philosophy that excludes prior work-related elements that would leave the average person “unemployable”.

The Greyston Open Hiring system instead relies on a compassionate and openminded approach to employment at their bakery which includes apprenticeship and continuing training to anyone who applies, rooted in the Zen principles and compassion for others.

Designs

The Rangers Program supports individuals facing barriers to entering the workforce, including veterans, seniors, low-income Yonkers residents, and formerly incarcerated individuals. The goal of these designs was to capture the perseverance and their mission to keep Yonkers clean and safe.
